Perusing the LL Bean catalog or website is a great place to begin your outdoor gear journey. But, if you have the opportunity to visit LL Bean in Freeport, Maine, you need to add it to your itinerary. It is a customer destination in its own right. The main store is an outdoor adventure wonderland. Stuffed bears and other creatures enact outdoor tableaus from the main entrance and throughout the store.

As you wander from room to room, touch and feel the quality fabrics, drool over clothing you must have, and oogle at unique items you never knew you needed, you are in shopping nirvana. Even the most non-shopping person — that’s me — enjoys wandering around the LL Bean Freeport store. My favorite travel backpack is from this very store. The hands-free backpack fits under the airplane seat, holds my laptop and other electronic gear, has pockets for my passport, a change of clothes, and anything else I need for my next destination. There are lots of options to choose from, constructed with years of history and customer feedback.

Other L.L. Bean Stores In Freeport

LL Bean Bike, Boat & Ski Store

There are four other stores at the Freeport LL Bean complex that will set you mind wandering.

Bike, Boat & Ski Store

The Bike, Boat & Ski Store is one of my favorite shops to wander and daydream. There is a massive amount of space in this shop. Filled with a myriad of stand up paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, and other on-the-water weekend toys, it boggles the imagination. Bikes are not my thing, but friends rave about the selection. I love to get outside in the winter. I own a pair of L.L. Bean snowshoes, they are the best snowshoes I have ever owned.

Hunt and Fish Store

The Hunt and Fish Store is fascinating. I haven’t fished since I was a young girl, but perusing the isles of beautiful fishing lures and flies is fun. When I explore the gun racks, I have mixed emotions about American freedoms and how to manage guns for purchase. Hunting is not for everyone, — still, this store is an eye opener and not to be missed.

Home Store

The charming Home Store is filled with seasonal decor and everything plaid. From china to furniture, you can outfit your entire home in the casual style of LL Bean.

Outlet Store

At the Outlet Store, you will find an ever changing selection of apparel, gear and home products for sale that are moving off the main store shelves. If you are looking for a bargain, this is a must not miss stop.

PS:

Don’t you just hate it when your phone battery is in the dreaded red zone? I always carry Fuel Rods with me. They give me a battery boost, they are rechargeable, and they work with iphones and androids.

Travel health insurance when you are heading out of the country is an important consideration. Many policies don’t fully cover you outside of the US. I use Safety Wing for my international travels. I use the one-time coverage option for individual trips – luckily I haven’t had to use it, but it’s comforting to know I have it in place. And, if you are traveling in a country that may require you to be airlifted for proper medical attention, Medjet is the best option for evac insurance.

If you know me, you know I love a glass of wine (or two). My favorite mail order wine company is Naked Wines. I order a case every month or so – no judgment please. I love that they work with small independent winemakers and I get to choose what wine I want and when I want it delivered.
Don’t forget to download my free packing list! It’s the perfect jumping off point to get your adventure started.
