Cruising on a luxury ocean liner, floating along on a river cruise ship, or sailing around the harbor on a catamaran, I love being on the water. When we decided to join Avalon Waterways on the Upper Danube River cruise, I was delighted. New countries to check off my bucket list: Czechia, Austria, and Hungary along with some new stops in Germany — I’m in.
Truffles, pralines, pastries, and other specialties crafted from world-famous haute chocolatiers are the hallmark of Switzerland. We had the distinct pleasure of following a knowledgeable local guide who delivered a superb Geneva chocolate tour. I can still taste the delicious sweet treats delivered on our chocolate tasting tour.
The gourmet dining menu is well crafted. Unlike the humongous cruise ships, the River Cruise ships have two dining rooms. The main dining room serves a chef special every night that reflects the region the ship is sailing through. Escargot in Alsace and a beer garden fest in Cologne are items you might find on the daily chef’s menu. There is always a traditional steak, chicken, or fish options available along with a “healthy choice” menu. Anyway you slice it, AmaWaterways chefs serve up fabulous food.
